One of the most challenging times in life is when a person is in high school and college. Experimenting with substances and other things can be very difficult for some of our young people. Parents will often times see signs of addiction or other problems that their loved one is struggling with things and an early intervention can be key in bringing that young person back to a healthy position in life.
Parents with high school students have a lot going on and do not always have the time to see what is going on in their own home with their loved one. We can help guide you with an early intervention and help your loved one stay focused on completing high school.
Finishing college is key to a young person's foundation. We can help you, the parents, approach your loved one in the right way and get them the attention that they need to prevent further challenges from making its way into your loved one's body or mind.
Teachers know that it's best to intervene as soon as they realize that a student is struggling, to meet with the student and parents to identify problems and devise a plan. Maybe the student has an addiction issue or eating disorder and should be referred for an assessment. This can easily take place by informing the parents that they are seeing some abnormalities at school. Teachers can be the first eyes and ears on the situation.
The person who can intervene on a teenager or a young adult is another young adult. You know your friend and they respect you. After all, the parents are not around to see what you see and they do not have the inside knowledge that you have so you are in the best position to intervene on your friend's behalf.
One of the most important factors in identifying if a student has a substance use disorder is by having the school nurse do a brief observation and assessment.
You as a parent have the opportunity to give the keys of success to your child by helping them first get the help that they need. We will help you with the intervention so you can reach out to the professionals for assessment and treatment.
